Kara's Sweet Sixteen
November 3rd, 2004
It was to be her last day as a carefree child, but Kara couldn't wait until her birthday party that night after school. Andi was excited for her as well and, although she'd dearly miss her little girl, she was curious to see what kind of a young woman Kara would turn out to be.
After finishing her homework, Kara got a birthday kiss from her mom.
"Do you want anything special for breakfast this morning, honey?" asked Andi.
Kara crinkled her forehead in thought. "Hmm…pancakes?"
"Really? But you always have pancakes. Are you sure?"
"Omelettes? But make sure the eggs are all the way cooked. I hate googly raw parts."
Andi ruffled Kara's hair. "Okay."
"Hey, Mom? Can I make my birthday cake this time?"
"Well, I already have a cake made. But you can still make one if you want. It can be a special cake."
"'K!" After pulling out a pan, Kara dumped in the small packet of cake mix, added some water and stirred the mixture with her finger. With the cooking lessons she'd been taking from Mom and the (one) home ec class she'd taken, Kara was sure that this time her cake would turn out sweet-smelling and golden brown.
"Eww! Something stinks! Who farted?" said Kim.
Kara frowned and held her nose. "It's my cake."
Andi gagged and sprayed some air freshener around the room. Apparently, she was going to have to concentrate harder on the girls' cooking lessons. "It's okay. At least we have the other cake."
"Yeah, I guess. I was just trying to help." Kara pulled the blackened corpse of her cake from the Little Baker oven and threw it in the trash compactor.
Later that day, while the kids were still as school and after she'd finished studying, Andi made an important phone call.
"Yeah, I don't feel so good. My stomach kind of hurts and I…urp… Oops, I just threw up in my mouth a little." Andi covered the receiver of the phone with her hand and giggled silently to herself.
Her boss replied. "Oh, you don't sound so good. Go ahead and stay home today. You won't even have to use a vacation day to do it. Get plenty of rest and I hope we see you tomorrow."
"Thank you. Bye."
Andi pumped her fist in triumph as she hung up the phone. Normally she wouldn't have blatantly lied like that, but it wasn't everyday her child had a birthday. Plus, she wanted to save up her vacation days for that trip she had planned with Art.
After taking off her thinking cap and putting it on the entryway table, Andi rushed into the kitchen to take the cake out of the 'fridge. It was just in time too. The bus pulled up to the curb as Andi finished placing the candles on the cake.
Art entered the kitchen. "Is everything ready?"
"Yep, just waiting for the birthday girl."
Art and Andi watched as the girls ran off the bus. Two other kids disembarked behind them.
Kara ran into the kitchen and, with her gaze riveted on her birthday cake, said breathlessly, "Kim and I met some cool kids at school today and I invited them to my party. Is that okay?"
"Sure," said Art. "Bring them in and introduce us."
Kara went over to the window and motioned to her sister to bring their new friends inside.
Kim entered the kitchen with the two blond kids in tow. She pointed at the girl first. "This is Corrie Hillock. And this," she said pointing at the boy in the pirate's hat, "is John. He was the one who named our town. Remember?"
"Nice to meet you," said Andi. "I'm—"
Kara interrupted. "Oh, yeah! Corrie and John, this is Mom and Dad."
Art's lips crooked in a half smile. "Art and Andi is fine."
The two Hillocks smiled shyly back at him.
Andi clapped her hands together. "Well, let's get this party started, shall we?"
Kara cheered and skipped over to the counter. She stepped up on the stool that her mom had set down for her and watched as her dad lit the candles on the cake.
She beamed as everyone cracked out the noisemakers and started singing "Happy Birthday."

That is really good and extremly descriptive. I especially like the way you've kept it so entertaining for three pages, many other stories I've read really only say 'Sim X grew up' and have a couple of pictures.

I've finally caught up:mrgreen:!! I'm absolutely loving it sis! Your stories are so creative and packed with hidden meaning and pieces of your personality. You have our family playing it out perfectly!! I love US!:grin: The Alphabets is nice addictive little story! I can't wait for John's B-Day (Little John, hmmmm, you did in fact rob the cradle, sis!)–You are just too hot grown up, I'll bet he'll be the same,…What a perfect match! I felt sort of sad 😥 when little Kim asked if her sis would still play with her, cuz I remember thinking just that…But, you did, and still do!:wink: I feel sorry for poor Dad–Hopefully he gets his promotion soon or little Kim might have to go down to Everybody's a Weiner and tell them where they can shove there hot dogs if they don't give her Dad the promotion he deserves.:lol::lol: I can't wait for me to grow up either, so I can be as gorgeous as my older sis! My John wants to know why he isn't in the stories at all,…he's pouting (sort of):wink:! Love you sis! Can't wait for more:!:
