The Monster and the Maiden: Ch. 01, Part II
January 21st, 2008
Taken aback by Rafe's response, these certainly were not the first words he had expected his friend to utter after his revelation, Edmond could only say, "What?"
Turning to face Edmond, Rafe said, "I thought you'd have fangs. To, you know, drink blood?" He shrugged as if he suddenly realized his question might have been rude, but then Rafe had never been one to let social niceties stand in his way of what he wanted to know.
Edmond allowed a little relief to seep into his being at Rafe's seeming nonchalance. "I file them between feedings."
His friend winced, running his tongue across his own straight, white teeth. "Does it hurt?"
"Oui."
"ThenΓ’β¬Β¦why?"
"It helps me to blend in and to feel more human. They grow back in by the time I need to feed."
"Too bad they aren't retractable. Save you the trouble," Rafe said with his smart-ass grin that Edmond remembered so well.
"That would have been nice."
"So," said Rafe as he sauntered over to the overstuffed loveseat and plopped his weight onto it. "What are you going to do now that I've found you? Run away again?"
Edmond glared at his friend as he took a seat on the sofa. "I am not going back to France if that is what you are asking."
"Why not? Master Bladestorm could help you. He's been trying to this past year but there is only so much he can do with you not there."
Edmond considered telling Rafe about his plan for vengeance against his former master if he could not find a counter-curse to his affliction, but then decided against it. Rafe was still very loyal to Koryll. Instead he said, "I do not trust Koryll anymore."
Rafe raised his brow at Edmond's breech in calling their master by his first name.
"He is no longer my master. I want nothing more to do with him. I would rather find the counter-curse myself instead of trusting what is left of my life to a man who sees magic as something to be experimented with and we just his willing guinea pigs."

Fantastic. Superb. Awesome.

What Jade said! Edmond's got a bad boy side hidden away there …. ;)*tips bucket of ice over her head* I can't wait to find out more regarding Master Bladestorm – is he really bad as Edmond thinks, or does he want to help as Rafe says? And is it just me, or is there a similarity in looks between Rafe and Alec?

Edmond's description of feeding is arousing. Well-written, I can't wait for more!

I can only follow Jade's and Tanya's leads. This was fantastic, superb, awesome and more. Utterly brilliant, basically. π
There's something about Rafe that does indeed seem similar to Alec, and in a way Edmond reminds me of Tahlvin. But I am probably completely wrong and just making too many assumptions (as usual).
I wonder how the dinner will go? I hope Edmond won't get the sudden "need to feed" while they're out!

*fans self* Oh my… Well…! This is certainly a lovely episode to wake up to! I read the first page and couldn't stop blushing afterward. I won't lie. I read that page at least twice. LOL!
Can't wait for the next part! ^_^

"The ecstasy that flooded through him, causing his skin to tingle and his hardened arousal to press almost painfully against the zipper of his pants, as his victim moaned in blissful abandonment in his arms."
Best sentence ever! I'm not just saying that because it's sexual (well, maybe a little) but your descriptive prose is excellent and provokes very strong imagery. I wish I could write like that! Thanks for the timely installment. I'll be looking forward to reading these chapters.

Argh, you've got me wondering where you were going with the Rafe and Alec train of thought now π There's definitely something special about writing feeding scenes. And reading them a few dozen times …..
*zips mouth before revealing more "interesting" feeding thoughts*

Edmond is not so unemotional and detached as he would obviously like to appear, and Rafe is all squishy inside too. Such beautiful descriptive language, I was eating it up (so to speak).

Wow, how did I miss this? Very cool. Your images and characters with this remind me a bit of anime–I think it just might be the rugged looks with long hair. Or maybe I'm just regressing back to lost days, haha.
Edmond's look, in particular, is all sorts of awesome. His expressions speak volumes. I love it!

It's great to have a weekly updated story of yours. Now I can have my fix every mondays π
I love the contrast between Edmond's angelic look and the description of his "monster condition" and the way it feels to feed of humanoids. BTW, as already said above, loved the way you turned that sentence. Very sexual and poetic at the same time.
Now I am really intrigued about the rest of the story. Is it all planned out already? Do you know approximatly how many chapters there will be or are you still in the process of organising the plot?
PS: thanks for the compliments on my ceiling tiles π It always make me happy to spot some of my CC in your stories.

Hello Kara.
Ive been reading your stories since…erm…August 2007 (yes im sorry it took me this long to work up the courage to comment), and may I just say you are one of the story writers whos stories ive read. Seriously, you inspire me to write because your use of language is so…( cannot think of words to follow up sentence). And I am glad that ou are now updating every week because your work provides me with good entertainment throught reading, and not just any reading, reading involving pictures of my favourite game. So for that I thank you.
I love this new story, and may i say IM IN LOVE WITH EDMOND! He's definately something. π You work never ceases to amaze me!

Oh Goodness. I was almost in tears myself at the end there. I really feel for poor Edmond and I was very surprised at how calmly and rationally Rafe took it. I think he proved himself a truly valuable friend.
You did a fantastic job on showing the conversation through the caps too, although with your writing, I have to say, I wouldn't have noticed if it had just been the writing. You painted the scene very well and I could picture it clearly.
The images just enhance what you already have, a beautiful accompaniment to your story.

It has been so long since I've read one of your stories, Kara. My head has been everywhere but here. This is a brilliant little gem.

I don't know how you could stop writing descriptively — kind of like a dog trying to turn into a cat. Which reminds me I adore the "retractable" line! Made me laugh out loud!
Love the shot with the yellow candles on the table, which seem to throw a golden light on the room.
Particularly appreciate the fact that your characters have such distinctive and complex personalities. Edmond reacts almost like a guy in his late teens or early 20's — Rafe, much older.
Wonderful, again, as usual.

I really, really like Rafe. he's got a classy. suave dimeanor that really attracts me.
