The morning after…
Ransom: "Guess who came home late last night looking like something the cat dragged in."
Katriss: *hopefully* "Ooo, don't tell me. Ethyn?"
Ransom: "Exactly. But I don't think you'll like the why of it."
Katriss: "What do you mean?"
Ransom: "Well, I only got an abbreviated version of what happened, but your good ol' victim Marty told Ethyn to take a hike. Apparently, the big guy decided to mend fences with his wife. It looks like your plan didn't quite end up as you wanted."
Katriss: *choke*
Katriss: "Are you serious?"
Ransom: "Dead serious, darlin'."
Katriss: "Damn. Our boy Ethyn wasn't as much of a distraction as I thought he'd be. I'll admit, I'd hoped that the affair would have broken up Marty and Justine. But, it's not a total loss, I suppose. After all, doubt and mistrust has been introduced into their marriage. Yes…perhaps it worked out for the best after all."
Ransom: "Hmm…I'd hoped you'd have a little more sympathy for Ethyn. You should have seen him last night. I've never seen anyone so heartbroken. Don't you feel at all bad for what you did to him?"
Katriss: "Sympathy isn't my strong suit. It's not like Ethyn needed much prodding to get him into a relationship with a married man."
Ransom: "But you set things up so that they would get together."
Katriss: "Yes. But, I didn't take their freewill away. They both chose to enter into an affair with open eyes."
Ransom: "Well, I feel bad for both of them, especially Ethyn. At least promise me that you'll never use him in another of your schemes, Kat. Ever. Again."
Katriss: *sigh* "Fine, fine. But you're cramping my style."
Ransom: "Somehow I think you'll survive."
Ethyn dragged himself downstairs soon after Katriss and Ransom finished their breakfast. At Ransom's prompting Ethyn went into more depth about what had happened at the Keaton house the night before. He was still having trouble processing how horribly and suddenly his relationship with Marty had ended. He felt like a piece of meat that had been chewed then spit out.
Ethyn: "What is wrong with me? Why can't I just have a normal, stable relationship?"
Ethyn: "Crap. I give up."
Katriss: "Woah there, buddy. Katriss doesn't do comfort hugs."
Katriss: "Er…"
Katriss: "Um. There, there." *awkwardly pats him on the shoulder a few times*
Ethyn: *sob*
Katriss: "Oh!"
Katriss: *in a whisper to Ransom* "Help!"

Ooooohhh, so what's gonna happen with Christopher Steel? -wink wink nudge nudge- Ohh, and I loved the ending. I love how tough Katriss was (of course) and how macho angry Xander was, then how Inara just said "Bye, Xander." Ha ha, I pictured her saying it in an innocent and almost sing-song voice. Then I picture Xander's response to be gruff and slightly ignorant.

Yeah, you should totally do more with Chris. ;o) He's really adorable, but in that youthful and energetic and innocent kind of way. The perfect shoulder to cry on, and the one that you are falling in love with but don't realize it until it's too late. Ha ha!

LOL! Xander is hilarious and I adore Ransom. He's like the calm voice of reasoning in the house, provided he's not preoccupied with video games.
Poor Ethyn! He needs to get out of his slump. Loved the bit with Thorton awkwardly handing him the book… ROFL.

Have I ever mentioned how good you are at this… this whole creating and writing thing you've been doing? Because you have SKILLZZZZZUH! And once again, this is a fantasmull update.
Seriously, I envy you and your talent! Not enough to even make me think of not reading every single thing on here though… 😛
