Screen Test: The Maiden

August 14th, 2009

I've spent the last week or so fiddling around in game in the neighborhood of Riverview, which has become my test neighborhood. I've set up two houses: one with Ransom Clavell, Emily Shadowtalon and Edmond le Strange, and the other with Julian Nomad and Viktor Quinn. I'm trying to complete their final looks before putting them in my main game (well, except for Ransom…he's hanging around because it's where I took his pictures for the previous post and I haven't had the heart to move him out [I enjoy looking at him too much…haha]).

I'm pretty sure I'm done working on Emily. She's gone through several little facial reconstruction sessions (thanks to "editsim") before I was completely happy with her look. Granted, she doesn't look massively different from when I first created her in CAS, but it's amazing how much small tweaks can refine the overall look. Here's a peek at Emily 1.0, if you want to see how she started out. I'd say the current version is Emily 3.0.

Anyway, doesn't she look a little like Liv Tyler here? Or is it just me? I think it must be the hair.

Another hairsytle—I'm trying to decide which I like best.

It's amazing the detail and personality you manage to capture in your sims. Emily looks great… you can definitely tell it's her! Can't wait to see more of Edmond!

Thank you, Kiwi! It's funny, but with the portrait shots, it felt more like a ball-joint doll photoshoot. haha

I hope you like how Edmond turned out as well.

Wow, Emily is really pretty! I think I still like her better in The Sims 2 (for now, at least until I see any stories) but she is still VERY pretty.

I think I might finally break down and get some custom content.

Thanks, Ju! I don't think I could play without custom content. Even when I first got the game, the first thing I downloaded was custom skins. haha

I was talking to my sister yesterday and I was telling her that I'm actually at the point where my Sims 2 characters look a little weird to me since I've been spending so much time with my Sims 3 characters. Funny, huh? I didn't think that would ever happen.

Top shot page 2 is classic Emily. She is so different and yet so Emily if that makes sense. I can't wait to see what you did with Edmond, Julian and Viktor.

Thank you, Gayl! Yeah, I didn't try to make an exact replica of the Sims 2 Emily (I think I would have gone mad trying to do that), I really just tried to interpret her essence. So, I'm glad that came through.

Ditto, ditto, and more diiiiiitttttoooo. 8)
I'm still trying to get used to how the game looks in your pictures 😕 , since I'm still in slight TS2 mode all the time 😳 . Either way…. she's burreh burreh pretty :halo: . Actually, she kind of reminded me of a mix between Liv Tyler and that actress from "The Day The Earth Stood Still". But that's just me 😛 …
Nice to see you again, Kara. That absence was paaaainful  .
Can't wait to see what Mr. Mon-Sewer looks like :XO: .

haha I wasn't gone that long, was I? It was only a little over a week since I last posted. It's nice to know I was missed though. 😉

And, I know what you mean. As I mentioned above, I'm having the opposite problem as you. I'm in the Sims 3 mode so I always have to undergo a shift in aesthetics when I look at Sims 2 pictures now.

And, that's funny that you mention Jennifer Connelly. I actually re-watched "Labyrinth" last night. Love that movie!

She's really pretty and definitely recognizable as Emily. Liv Tyler…it's not just the hair. The shape of her face, the chin and jaw, also look something like Liv. You're doing a fantastic job with these!

Thanks so much, B! The resemblance to Liv Tyler was entirely coincidental, but not an unhappy one. I think Liv is gorgeous. So, if Em does resemble her, then she is in good company. 🙂

Finally! I can't wait for the actual story to get back up, but this little sneakpeek tells me that yes, you do actually still think of them. And watermelon you! How dare Edmond be in these shots with his face hidden! Are you going to get him to wear a ski mask next? *need more Edmond…* 😥

Oh, I think about Edmond and Emily all the time. You have no idea! It's pretty sad, actually. haha I even have a ball joint doll version of Edmond who is almost completed. I just need to make the last payment on his body, which should happen this week. I'm hoping it will arrive by next week. *crosses fingers*

And, a ski mask! Great idea, Stacey! mwahahaha 😉

She looks gorgeous, Kara – absolutely lovely! 😀 I can see the Liv Tyler resemblance, definitely (heh, does this mean Tahlvin is like Steven Tyler?). She's really unique-looking, too, not like a lot of the 'putty-faced' Sims I've seen elsewhere.

And of course, I look forward to seeing more of Edmond! 😮

Thank you, A! I worked hard on her to make sure she didn't look like a lot of the other Sims 3 females. It's easy to make them look the same. So, I'm glad I succeeded! That's one of the fun things about the Sims 3: if you work at it, you can make a lot of unique, but good-looking characters…at least, I like to think so. 🙂

  8. Ju says:

Yeah, actually, I missed your presence as well. Those days that I would get online and check your website only to see that you hadn't updated anything. -sigh-

Oh, and I downloaded skin and eye replacements (-excited-). I still haven't gotten anything else yet though. I just want to make sure I have the best quality I can have for my game. I don't want to just "settle" like I did for The Sims 2. Funny how on my dinosaur computer I used to download thousands of custom content files without even thinking about it and now I have an amazing computer and always make sure to sleep on it for a few days before I download even just one.

It's nice to be missed. 🙂 And, that's probably a great approach to downloading stuff. So far, I've been doing a lot of installing, checking to see how it looks in game, and then deleting. Some of the hair styles I'm a little lenient with since I'm desperate for new hair. I have everything well organized in various files at least.

  9. Marisa says:

"I've been doing a lot of installing, checking to see how it looks in game, and then deleting."

Exactly what I do. I don't want to end up with a billion crappy things like I did in TS2 and then have to do a major sort out… In fact, I'd only just finished sorting my TS2 downloads folder when TS3 came out. Ugh.

Your sims are lovely – so lifelike! What skintones and eyes do you use?

Thank you so much, Marisa! I've added CC lists to both of the "screen tests" posts so that everyone can see what stuff I'm using to make my sims.

haha I know what you mean. I even organized everything into subfolders since my mods/packages folder was getting too cumbersome with stuff just shoved in there. I was having a hard time finding packages.

And, I just want to say how much I'm enjoying the pictures you've been posting. Two of my Sims, Viktor and Julian, have their bedrooms exclusively decorated with travel pictures and rock posters from your site. I love them! 🙂

it's been said but i'll say it again – she looks great!

Thank you! I like how she turned out.
