The Girls Get a Big Surprise
October 15th, 2004

Kara and Kim woke up early and rushed to the playroom, which just the night before had housed Kim's crib and changing table. But Kim was a big girl now and the thing she wanted to do most was play dolls with her big sis.

They played until their dad Art called them to breakfast. Strangely, Kara wasn't hungry and instead went to take a bubble bath. Kim was hungry but didn't want cereal. Instead, her birthday cake from the night before looked really yummy. Well, atleast it was a balanced meal, Art reasoned—eggs, flour and milk. He decided he wouldn't tell Andi what Kim ate for breakfast.

When she finished her cake, Kim went to change into her school clothes. This would be her first day in grade school and she wanted to look nice. She liked the outfit her sister wore so she wore that too. The bus pulled up the the curb and Kim ran out as soon as she saw it through the dining room window. Kara almost missed the bus because she was playing a game of chess with her dad.

Since both the girls were at school today, Andi thought it would be a good time to go downtown and get some shopping done. She wanted to get some new clothes for the girls. Art still hadn't found a job so he decided to go with her. The clothes shopping didn't interest him but he had some other things he wanted to pick up.

With all the entertaining they'd done lately, Art needed to replenish their food stock. Art actually liked to shop for groceries and would go everyday if he had time.

Once at the store, Andi headed over to the clothes rack and found a lot of cute outfits on sale. "Oh! Look at that! It's in my size."

Art found an pinball machine in the game shop above the grocery store. He hadn't played pinball in a long time, but he used to be pretty good at it back in high school. Suddenly, the machine buzzed and "Tilt!" flashed across the screen. "Ah, crap," muttered Art.

Finally settling on a couple of dresses for the girls, some shirts and pants for Art, and a skirt for herself, Andi thought she had everything she needed. But on the way to the cash register she spotted some halloween costumes for sale. She picked out a couple of costumes that she thought the girls would like and then went up to pay for her items. The bill was a bit larger than she thought, but she'd be starting her job soon so this little splurge was okay.

While he was at the game shop, Art spotted a game that Kara had expressed an interest when she'd seen the commercial on TV. The game sounded fun to him too. He'd have to try it when he got home.
He made one more special stop before he went to pick up Andi at The Wearhouse.

They returned home tired and hungry, but it had been fun to explore downtown Pirate's Cove. Andi really liked the stores and wanted to go shopping again soon. Art wanted to find a place that had a hot springs or a swimming pool.
After throwing her bags down as soon as she entered the house, Andi raced to the bathroom. Art put the groceries away and then went to his bedroom to unpack the surprise he had bought the girls at the last store he'd shopped.

Daniel's frequent trips to the bathroom the day before must have put a strain on the toilet because it clogged when Andi flushed it. Ewww! Feeling too tired to try to unclog it herself and knowing Art was busy with something else, she called a plumber. Surprisingly, the plumber arrived exactly when she said she would. Andi showed her to the bathroom. The maid came downstairs and told her he'd take care of the puddle in the bathroom. Andi thanked him and then went to lay down until the girls got home.

Kara had such a good day at school! She got back her homework and the teacher had given her an A+! She couldn't wait to tell her parents.

One of Kara's friends came home with her. Chandler was pretty cool…for a boy. But Kim didn't like him very much.

Kim's first day of school was a little different than she thought it would be (weren't they supposed to have recess more often?), but it had still been fun. However, she wasn't very happy with her grades. Andi assured her if she did her homework she'd have an A+ in no time, just like her sister.
So with Andi's help, Kim settled down to do her homework. She was a bit jealous that Kara got to play though. But Kara soon came in and did her homework too. Art said that if her homework wasn't done before dinner that she wouldn't get a surprise.

After dinner, Art took the girls into his bedroom and gave them each a bag. They looked excitedly at each other and then reached inside. They both pulled out a package. Kim's package read "Cat-A-Strophic Luminous Lawn Ornament" and Kara's read "Jack-O-Hattern Luminous Lawn Ornament."
"Cool! Can we put them up now, Dad?" said Kara.
Art nodded and with help from the whole family, the decorations were soon inflated and staked in the yard. Kara and Kim loved their surprise and couldn't wait for Halloween…and Halloween candy.

I like our Halloween suprises…will we get to see the costumes Mom bought? The Mom and Dad shopping day was absolutely right on! We're too cute playing dolls!

Kim: I was wondering if you'd get the Cosby reference. 😆 And, yep, you'll get to see our Halloween costumes too. In fact, you're already wearing yours…guess what it is! By the way, what did Dad do that had you laughing?

A ballerina in a little pink tutu with wings??!! Dad was just talking about having to wait in line at the grocery store as people chatted rather than filling out their checks and not wasting other peoples. He kept doing extravagant hand gestures and talking like Cosby does when he tell a story and acts out the people. He had the person at the grocery counter just talking, talking, talking then when they got their total, they were like…Oh, Oh, Okay….Uhhhh, where am I again,….what's the total again….(filling out a check), or Uhhh, how do I swipe this card….Oh, Oh, what buttons do I push, etc. It was just so funny seeing him re-enact events we've all endured! 😆 I'm sure you can picture it!

Oh by the way, I laughed when I saw you had Chandler Platz in your game too…I have stopped using townies I make lots with eight sims on it, of random types all with a little background that I make up and I am beginning to use them as my "townies"…I do not play the lots, I unless I need to play one to grow up….the game will usually bring your townies to lots and for random walkbys rather than the default ones…so you do not run into the problem of everyone having a "Chandler Platz" in their game…but I also moved Chandler to Father O's so that I can grow him up pretty soon. Then he will be a teen for awhile and still Garrett's best friend. 🙂

That's a good idea, Jade.
I'll have to set up some lots that are just "feeders." I think it's hilarious how Chandler is Garrett's best friend. 😆
