Faces Around Town
October 18th, 2004
Reported by Gale Gossip
Ever since Pleasantview was renamed Pirate's Cove, the town has been experiencing a population boom. Many families from various walks of life have moved to our scenic and colorful town looking to start a new life, get away from the hussle and bussle of city life, or hide out from aliens in homes made of aluminum foil (just as an example). This intrepid reporter hit the sidewalk to learn about these new faces that you might soon see around town.
(Note: These are families that I'll be playing but not necessarily posting regular stories about. Look for them to make guest appearances in the stories of my main families.)

Thalan and Briza Veladorn hail from Isle of Midland. Thalan grew up in a merchant family that specializes in exporting handcrafted elfin items. Seeking to further expand their business, Thalan was sent to scout Sim City and the nearby towns for possible customers and to set up an import warehouse. Originally, since it was convenient, Thalan was going to settle in Sim City but, although he enjoyed working there, he couldn't bring himself to live in a "concrete jungle." When his business travels brought him to our fair town, Thalan knew he had found a new home. He was taken with the small town lifestyle that reminded him of his hometown.
Briza is Thalan's childhood sweetheart. When she learned of his imminent departure for the mainland (without her, I might add), she was furious. But, she had a plan. She became a stowaway on the vessel that brought Thalan from Midland to the port at Sim City. However, she was soon discovered by the ship's steward when she snuck out of her hiding place to scrounge up a bite to eat. Luckily, Thalan found out what was going on before she was kicked overboard by an irate captain. The captain even ended up marrying them at sea! I love a happy ending.

Cheryl and Newton Haleblane moved to Pirate's Cove so that they could be closer to Cheryl's sister, Andi Strudel, and her family. Cheryl is also giving farming a try and tends the two alfalfa fields behind their cute red farmhouse. In her free time, she likes to paint and learn gourmet cooking.
Newton is a retired merchant mariner. He is enjoying the quiet life of Pirate's Cove and the frequent chess matches to which he challenges every visitor. Being a reporter didn't make me immune from his challenge, and, I'm embarrassed to say, he beat me in record time.

Tau moved his family to Pirate's Cove from the metropolis of Sahara after he quit his job in law enforcement. "I want to do something that is safer for me and my family," he told me. So, he is currently in the market for a job. He's unsure what he would like to pursue as of yet.
Sanura is ecstatic over Tau's career change. "In the future, when he walks out the door to go to work, I won't have to worry about him not returning," she said.
"Barring any freak accidents, like being hit by a crashing UFO," I told her.
In response, Sanura merely tilted her head and gave me an odd look.
The interview was a little stilted after that, but I did manage to find out a little about her past. A couple of years ago, Sanura was a tour guide for a photo safari outfit that operated out of Sahara. But she has taken some time off from work to concentrate on raising her cub, the adorable Kovu. She also hopes to have many more cubs in the future. It sounds like Tau better find a job quickly…and get plenty of rest!

Only a few years ago, Modesty Blaise was the head of a criminal organization known only as The Network. It was during this time that she first met Willie Gavin. She not only freed him from a jail but also freed him from a life no longer had any meaning. In a sense, he was reborn when he met Modesty. Recently, she has been doing work for a secret British agency but there are rumors that she has started up The Network again.
Ever since Modesty saved him, Willie has worshiped the ground she walks on and even calls her his "Princess." However, they are both quick to point out that their is nothing romantic about their relationship. "Yes, we are soulmates," said Modesty when I asked her to elaborate, "but in the truest sense of the word. It's almost like we are of one mind and body when it comes to I won't say that the thought of being Willie's lover has never crossed my mind. But I much prefer our friendship to be unhindered the petty jealousies that often accompany romance. Willie is Willie, and I'm simply Modesty…and we accept each other as we are—faults and all."
This reporter isn't quite certain there's "nothing" between the two housemates. I certainly felt some chemistry between them and I'm usually pretty good at predicting this type of thing. Of course, it may just be that Willie's beautiful blue eyes threw me off balance.
(Note: Modesty and Willie are fictional characters created by the author Peter O'Donnell. Her comic strip adventures are currently being reprinted by Titan Books. There are also a number of novels out there that chronicle her life. I highly recommend them. They are great fun.)
(And another note: The beautiful Blaise-Garvin house [a.k.a. Autumn House] was made by the talented Jen. I love her homes! I also love her Sims 2 blog.)

Tanis and Lorelei come from a distant land so far away that many people have never heard of it (quite hard to believe in this hightech world, but, believe me, I couldn't find it at all on the internet). They've come to Pirate's Cove because they have both gotten jobs at the military base outside of town. Their people chose them as representatives to learn advanced military tactics and to bring their knowledge home when they are trained. According to Tanis, their homeland is at war with an supernatural evil that could destroy our tranquil Pirate's Cove (as well as everywhere else) if it were to gain a foothold in our world. Well, let me just say, since his pronouncement, I haven't slept a wink! And let's hope that Tanis and Lorelei learn their lessons well!

Oh man, your families are too cool. I love all the variety. I can't wait to see them show up in your stories. 😀 And those other houses are gorgeous! Did you build them? I'm getting inspired as we speak…
Also, is Thalan an elder, or did you find a white hair for an adult somewhere? He looks awesome!

Wow, Kara, I love your families!!! I have an idea for a comic strip family, too. I just have to find the time to make them!!! (They're also going to require a big house, too). I can't wait tos ee them show up in your other stories. The Chita family looks absolutely beautiful (love the skin tone). Can you post a pic of your neighborhood and point out the families and where they live? I'd love to see that.

Thank you! I'm so glad you like the new families!
Jen: Well, you know who I got the Blaise-Garvin house from…. The Veladorn, Silverclaw and Haleblane house were either already in the house bin or in the Pleasantview neighborhood (I just picked them up and transferred them to Pirate's Cove). The Chita house is from Sim-Placement.
And Thalan isn't an elder. I got the cool white hair (as well as his Drow skin) from The Sims Resource…the artist Gamerq created them. He looks really cute, doesn't he? I'm embarrassed to say I have a little crush on him. 😳 lol
Kathy: Good idea! I'll post a picture of the neighborhood soon. 🙂 I can't wait to see your comic book family either.
Lani: Your daughter is absolutely right! I got Kovu's name from Lion King 2. hehe

Doh! Now that I take a closer look at the Haleblane House, I realize that I have it in Mt. Geneva, too. I just never play it! Paige Dobbins lived there when she was single.
I haven't played with the pre-made neighborhoods yet…I've never thought to borrow houses from them. Might have to do that. 😉 Thanks for the idea!
