Private School is Cool
November 2nd, 2004

With Andi still at work and Art getting ready to leave for his shift at Everybody's a Weiner, it was time for the babysitter to come.
"Aaah! Watch out for the bus there! A little more to the right! To the right!" said Calista, doing her best to turn the van herself with an imaginary steering wheel.
The driver rolled his eyes as he slowed the van to a stop. "We're here, Calista. I'll pick you up at the same time tonight."
"All right." Calista climbed out of the van and slammed the door shut. She turned around and said through the open window, "Now drive safe. I don't know how you've managed to survive this long when I'm not there to help navigate."
The driver grunted and took off, tires squealing, down the street.

Thanks to Willie Garvin-Blaise's help, Andi was able to secure a new position in the science field only one day after she was fired from her previous position for not having ESP. Her new supervisors at Clone Wars Biotech were so impressed with her work that she was immediately promoted from test subject to lab assistant.
As soon as Andi's carpool pulled up at the curb, Kim came running out of the house to give her mom a welcome home hug. For Andi, it was the perfect end to a very productive day.

Even though Andi was now home she wanted some time to study and didn't want to worry about fixing dinner so she asked Calista to stay on and help around the house. Calista was such a great help that Andi was ruing the day when the girls would be old enough to take care of themselves and she wouldn't have an excuse to employ Calista anymore.
It wasn't all work and no play for Calista however. She loved to play SSX for the Maxis Game Simulator. And, she was quite good at it (she had the highest score down at Fizzlefarts Retirement Community).

In fact, Calista was so good at SSX that the girls would beg her to give them pointers on getting higher scores. Today, to celebrate Kim's first A+, Calista showed Kim how to get her snowboarder to do a burger flip.
"That's so sick!" said Kim when she finally succeeded in doing the flip.

Later that night, after everyone else was asleep, Art returned home from work not with the promotion he'd hoped for but with a cold. He thought he must have gotten it from the fry girl—she'd been coughing all over the kitchen before he'd sent her home the other day.
He shuffled into the house and thought only of climbing into bed. After quickly changing into his pajamas and rubbing some vaporub on his chest he snuggled under the covers and tried to sleep. But soon a fit of coughing had him up again.

Not able to sleep, because of the constant urge to hack up a lung, Art decided instead to catch up some reading. He hoped he felt better in the morning.

Pleeeeeeeeeeeese can you give us a story about Kim's teenage birthday. I LUV your stories about Kim and Kara- I've been reading them since Kim was a toddler.
* * *
Yep, I'll be showing Kim become a teenager, she still has about 4 more sim days until she'll be one though. Until then, you can see Kara become a teenager tomorrow.

Wonderful! Great story and excellent production work. I haven't dug through the archives, so excuse the question. Are you scripting the family for this story, or playing the game and retelling the things that happened?
Enjoying your blog,
Lauren

Lauren: Thank you! I'm not letting the Strudels run autonomously. I'm heavily directing them down a path I want them to take. However, every once in a while something unplanned will come up and I'll just roll with it (e.g. Andi getting fired from her job). Also, sometimes for dramatic effect or to make the story flow better I'll also switch the order of scenes in my blog. But, everything that you see in these stories is pretty much how it happened in the game.
