First Day in Pleasantview
October 6th, 2004

Moving day had finally arrived. After a long taxi ride from Sim City, the Hillocks arrived at their new home in Pleasantview just as the movers finished their job. John was worried that he might have to go to school but Josh said that the school didn't know where they were. "Really?" said John. "Let's never tell them that we're here then." Dave just laughed and said that the bus would arrive tomorrow morning just like it had in Sim City.

Looking at their new surroundings, they were a little overwhelmed at first. Moving into a new house in a new city where they didn't know anyone was very daunting. But Joyce pushed down her doubts and realized that this was the start of a new and better life for her family. In her glee, she tossed Corrie into the air. Unfortunately, Corrie had just had her bottle. Before she knew it, Joyce was covered in bright blue toddler vomit. (What had she fed that child?)

While Joyce cleaned off her shirt in the kitchen, John screwed his pirate's cap on tighter and stalked off across the yard. He was Dread Pirate Joe and pirates feared nothing. As he rounded the corner of the house he spotted his familiar swing set and knew he was at home. With a whoop, he sprinted toward it and was soon pretending he was careening across the ocean waves.

Josh was busy breaking in his new RC car, which his dad had gotten him for his birthday, when he noticed a flash of yellow out of the corner of his eye. He looked up and saw a cute girl delivering the newspaper. He hurriedly set down his remote controller and went over to introduce himself. He even managed to get her phone number before she had to return to her route. He watched her walk off with a smile on his face—in Pleasantview for only a few hours and he was already scoring with the honeys.

Joyce was teaching Corrie to walk when some new neighbors began dropping by. Dina Caliente showed up first. Dave introduced himself and invited her to stay awhile. Dina thanked him and said that her sister Nina was bringing a few more people over. She explained that they were kind of the unofficial welcome wagon. Dave was pleased to be meeting people so soon and went to go make some sandwiches so that he'd have something to feed his guests. Soon, Nina showed up with Darren and Brandi in tow. After being greeted by Dave, Darren went inside to have some lunch. Nina started to follow until Brandi called her back. Brandi was a bit upset that Nina hadn't called her lately. Nina apologized but scolded Brandi for neglecting to tell her she was pregnant!

Dave's sandwiches were simple but everyone seemed to enjoy them. While they ate, Joyce chatted with Brandi and became familiar with the latest town gossip (one of the advantages and disadvantages of living in a small town). Apparently, Darren is newlywed to Cassandra, the rich daughter of Mortimer Goth—the town founder. Cassandra had divorced her previous husband Don after she found him cheating with Dina and Nina on two different occasions. Cass was much happier with Darren and they're trying to start a family. Unfortunately, Mortimer recently died only a few minutes after he married the ravishing Dina Caliente. Dina was devastated but her sister Nina convinced her to drown her sorrows by redecorating their house. John was oblivious to it all as he painted a picture to hang in his new bedroom.

Josh tried to work his mojo on the beautiful Dina, but she would have none of it. Joyce said to Brandi, "That boy can be a real handful. He thinks he's in love with all the pretty girls." Brandi tried to comfort her. "Don't worry about Josh. Dina prefers her men rich and ready to keel over."

Not able to ignore his growling stomach any longer, John put away his paints and headed to the kitchen to eat a sandwich. Nina soon joined him. John thought Nina was pretty cool. Not only did he find out that she is the granddaughter of an alien but she also has two ghosts that haunt her house (the ghosts of Dina's previous husbands). He asked her if he could see her ghosts someday. "I'll invite you and your parents over next time they're around," she said.

After he finished eating, John went to offer advice to Josh and Darren as they played darts. Nina decided to help her new neighbors and clean up the lunch dishes. Just as she finished, Brandi waddled into the kitchen. They each apologized to each other and even managed to grab a couple of minutes of quality alone time. Poor Brandi…doesn't she realize Nina is still dating Don as well?

Finally, the guests left. Joyce put a tired Corrie to bed then ordered a pizza. While they were waiting for the pizza to arrive, Dave read John another chapter of Treasure Island (he's been reading a chapter everyday before bedtime). Soon the pizza arrived, but the family was almost too tired to eat it. One by one they wandered off to bed. They would need plenty of rest if everyday in Pleasantview was going to be as exciting as this one.
