Grrr, Argh!

December 8th, 2004

This past weekend, my harddrive gave up the fight. Luckily, I was able to backup almost everything of importance before it died. Although I hate having to reconfigure my machine after getting a new harddrive or reformatting the drive, I thought no big deal, it'll take some time but I'll just reinstall everything and eventually my computer will be back in working order. Good plan, but of course something had to go wrong, and, suffice it to say, I more than a little pissed off. I spent all *%$#ing day yesterday (I'm not exaggerating at all) trying to install the Sims 2 on my computer. When my husband got home last night, he even tried. But we kept getting transfer errors. We tried everything that the technical page at the official Sims site recommended. Nothing worked. We think there is something wrong with the disks and that I was just got lucky when I got it installed on my machine the first time a couple of months ago. 😡

So, I'm going to have to buy another copy of the game (I think I'll get the DVD edition this time). Who knows when that will be though.

That $%#@ing sucks, sis!! Well, hopefully you can get one soon…Too bad I already got your Christmas present! Does't the disk have a warranty of some sort????:???:

  3. Kara says:

Kim: Yeah, the disk does have a warranty but you need a receipt to prove that you bought the CD, which I don't have anymore. 😥

Brittany: I just wanted the DVD edition so installation would go quicker and there would be less disks to deal with…there's only one DVD disk to install, right?

Oh no! I'm so sorry. I had to do all that stuff with my old computer and the original Sims (which really wasn't equipped to handle the game). We were able to reinstall the games and my expansion packs, but when I finally got a new computer, we couldn't get our old neighborhoods to transfer over. I think I lost those neighborhoods twice, once when my old computer crashed, and the other when I got my new computer.

I think the DVD has 2 disks instead of 4, but I have the CD version so I'm not positive.

Do you have two (or more if you're crazy) CD/DVD drives? I had problems as the game would seem to install well, then it would stop. Same as when I tried playing, I solved it by putting my sims disk into the other drive.

I really hate having to re-install my entire computer, and having the hardrive die is very annoying.

Oh no, I am so sorry to hear about the hard drive. I have had that happen to me once already. It completely sucks. But I do hope that you can get all fixed and running again. Have a great day! 🙂

I have the DVD version and you only get 1 DVD for the game and 1 DVD for the extras.

I'm sorry about your computer! 🙁 That's terrible. Reinstalling anything is such a pain. Were you able to save off your custom content and neighborhoods and things?

  8. Kara says:

Kathy, I managed to save almost all of my custom content…whether it was corrupted in the transfer to my husband's hard drive, I'm not sure yet. 😐 *crosses fingers* The maddening thing is I've been able to install the game on my husband's system. And it works. *sigh* I'm getting so fed up with this.

  9. Leslie says:

NO! Stupid computer! If I were there I would kick that stupid computer… 😆

I hope you get back soon though, meanwhile, we'll miss ya!

  10. Lauren says:

Yikes. Sorry to hear about your PC problems. I'll do almost anything not to setup a new computer/hard drive. I've used PCs that were well past their endurance just to avoid backing up files, re-installing software and reconfiguring all your applications and accessories. UGH. I certainly feel your pain. Hopefully, you'll be back soon. Until then good luck and have a glass of wine. 🙂

the DVD edition has two discs.. one to install and the DVD. so yes, installation would be quicker i suppose. it just depends on your comp. of course. good luck–

  15. Jade Eliott says:

I am sorry, Kara. If it makes you feel any better, I have had to reinstall TS2 at least seven times in the past three months. It is a really, really buggy game. 🙁

  16. Elyssa says:

Oh man, that would really bite! *hugs* hang in there girl 🙂 I hope you get up and running again soon!
