I haven't been playing the Sims lately, thus the dearth of updates. Instead, I've been playing World of Warcraft like a madwoman. But, I did manage to design my first house for Sims 2 (disregarding my Legacy house, which doesn't really count as it's just an amalgam of additions right now). I was so pleased with the way it turned out that I decided to offer it for download at the Sims 2 Exchange.
The layout of this house is based on an actual house that I lived in when I was a little girl in Kansas. This house looks a bit fancier than that house of my youth however. For expediency's sake, I excluded the garage, laundry room, attic and various storage/closet spaces.
This is a 2 to 3 BR, 2 BA house and is the perfect size for a family of four. I haven't played the house yet, but I already know which Sims are going to move into it…but I won't tell you…it'll be a surprise. 😉
A view of the backyard. I was focusing on the playhouse in this picture, so you can't see the patio or landscaping of the backyard. I should have taken another picture to include them, but I forgot. hehe Take my word for it, the backyard is fully landscaped and the patio includes a barbecue, a chess table and a picnic table.
This is just an overview of the house so you can see the layout of the rooms. Oh, and you can kind of see the patio off to the leftside of the picture.
I decided to fully decorate the house, which makes it rather expensive. If you want your Sims to move into it right away you'll have to use the money cheat (i.e. "motherlode"). Anyway, this is the entrance/living room where Sims can entertain guests or have piano recitals.
This bathroom is situated directly off of the living room. In real life, this bathroom was a closet/storage space, but I've found out that there needs to be at least one bathroom for every two Sims, so I decided to convert this area into a bathroom.
And here we have the dining area. It is right next to the kitchen, separated only by counters. The extra chairs can be pulled to the table if the Sims decide to have guests over.

I love it! The playhouse is adorable. I miss your stories, too, but it sounds like you're having fun playing World of Warcraft, so I'll just have to be patient. 😉

your house is very popular, Kara! i am going to download it as well, because out all the houses i've downloaded, not one of them came with a playhouse in the backyard. i love it! and it really suits a little girl very well. i'm going to have to create a special family that gets to live in it. i can't wait to see who will live in it. i have a guess, but i'll wait until you post your next story. don't rush with the updates. i'm pretty lull on my end, too… 🙂

I'm so glad everyone is enjoying the house! Thank you! I'm working on another house too. The walls have been raised but I still have the landscaping and decorating to do, which seems to take forever. Hopefully, I'll have it done by the end of the week.
Kathy, I'll give you a hint as to who will be moving into it: The Sims who will be living there aren't old enough to move into it yet.

Awesome house. The playhouse is definitely a very interesting addition. Did the playhouse come as is, or did you have to design that at well? Is there a way to take screenshots inside of it? I'm intrigued to take a peek inside.
By the way, I just had to chuckle when I read this line, "It also has a dishwasher which the original kitchen was lacking (seriously, it had no dishwasher, can you believe it?)" Growing up in an Asian family, our dishwasher was just a nice big dishrack. The only time we ever really used it if there was a huge dinner party. And even then, we had to "pre-wash" the dishes before loading them into the dishwasher.

🙂 nice house. I'm always having problems making my houses enjoyable to look at.I'm seriously thinking of getting house building books!! Love the playhouse. Great idea.

Janice – I'm asian, too (actually, I'm Filipino) and growing up, our dishwasher was just a big ol' dishrack, too. To this day, I still handwash everything. I've used the dishwasher a few times, but it's original the house and a few years back, it spent its last life. I just haven't had the time (or the money) to buy a new one.

Awesome house! I'm going to download it too 🙂 I'll even be sure to rate it for you.
I spent some of the weekend working on a house but I'm not done furnishing it so it's not ready for download. I have an extra building behind the house that I haven't decided what to do with yet. I've thought a bar area for the back (there's a small pool and hot tub nearby), a guest house, or a gallery or hobby area. Next to this area I also decided to put a very nice garden complete with green house.
It's fun to think of all of the extra stuff you can put on your lot that's not a part of the house itself.

Adorable house. My daughter would love this style home. I'm going to download it for her. I wish you had somewhere to post a little about WOW. Many of my AC2 friends have left for play WOW. I'm on hiatus from AC2 playing TS2 but thinking about trying WOW.

Your stories are so amazing. Love the house, never thought to make a play house. Great Idea! Much Lurve Madison XOXO

Oh, sis! This is amazing…though much roomier and more "now" decor than our other one. I love the tile by the front door and kitchen…its close to the original (I remember, cuz I always had to wash it). The Blue Den/Playroom is perfect! I love how all the funiture and placement of fixtures is set up like the original! I always wanted a playhouse too, and I love that it matches the house. Too fun–Love you!

This is such a nice house! 🙂 I'm really bad at building houses, lol, and it was a really good idea to put in a playhouse! Why didn't I think of that…

Wow, beautiful house. The playhouse was a cute idea, and I love the entrance room. I haven't gotten Sims 2 yet (expecting it for Christmas) but I'm probably going to download the house when I get it.

I'm sorry about your computer problems – that sucks!
I just downloaded this house and I LOVE it so far. 🙂 The landscaping is beautiful and I hope the gardener can keep up with it. 🙂
I had to make a few changes – the counters in the living room with the bar stools had to go because Sims seem to only want to pick up plates to clean them from BEHIND the counter which was blocked by a wall. I moved the stereo and table/lamp over to that wall and put a bar on the other side. I also had to delete the dining room table for some reason – the sims didn't want to put any servings down on the two far right seats. I have no idea why.
I so wish I could build houses this beautiful and functional. Great job!
